Bangladesh is rarely thought of as a typical tourist destination but those who make the effort to visit are fully rewarded. Straddling the delta of two of the biggest rivers in the world, Bangladesh is a maze of winding waterways, fertile farm land, culture, history and warm, friendly people.

Christian Aid currently funds more than 15 partner organisations in Bangladesh who are involved in both short-term emergency relief and longer-term development.

In Tangail district, you will discover UBINIG (Policy Research for Development Alternatives), a Christian Aid partner organisation since 2004. UBINIG provides training for women and communities in a wide range of issues such as food sovereignty, disaster preparedness and health. It encourages communities to campaign for equality and justice, celebrate diversity and promote respect for the rights of the poor.

Ajiyer and tour guide Shahid Hussain Shamim will be the hosts for your trip. One of the founding members of UBINIG, Shamim set up Ajiyer in 2002 to give visitors an opportunity to learn about Bangladeshi culture, crafts and biodiversity from local people.
