Bangladesh is rarely thought of as a typical tourist destination but those who make the effort to visit are fully rewarded. Straddling the delta of two of the biggest rivers in the world, Bangladesh is a maze of winding waterways, fertile farm land, culture, history and warm, friendly people.
Christian Aid currently funds more than 15 partner organisations in Bangladesh who are involved in both short-term emergency relief and longer-term development.
During the tour we will visit a nubmer of different projects, including spending time with CCDB, the development wing of the National Church of Bangladesh. Since 1998 Christian Aid has supported their core programme which addresses the lack of representation of the poor at all levels of society, even at the most basic levels; incluing helth, nutrition, education and emplyment.
Ajiyer and tour guide Shahid Hussain Shamim will be the hosts for your trip. Shamim set up Ajiyer in 2002 to give visitors an opportunity to learn about Bangladeshi culture, crafts and biodiversity from local people.
